THERMODYNAMIC MODELING OF THE COMPOSITION OF COMBUSTIBLE GASES FORMED DURING THE PYROLYSIS OF LITHIUM-ION BATTERY CELLS
Against the background of the ongoing active spread and expansion of the areas of application of lithium-ion batteries in Russia and abroad, cases of fires caused by their spontaneous combustion continue to be recorded. In order to assess the fire risks associated with the storage, operation, or transportation of this type of combustible load at protected facilities, it is advisable to qualitatively and quantitatively assess the composition of the pyrolysis products of the chemically active components of lithium-ion battery packs. The task of determining the composition of the gaseous products of the pyrolysis of lithium-ion batteries at the moment preceding their breakthrough from the battery case and ignition can be solved using thermodynamic modeling methods using the limiting principles of thermodynamics. Information about the composition of the pyrolysis gases will allow to create a model of combustion of lithium-ion batteries, representing this process as the combustion of a jet of combustible gases.
